EPJ B - New Editorial Board Member appointments

The Publishers and Editors-in-Chief of EPJB: Condensed Matter and Complex Systems are delighted to announce the appointment of three new members of the Editorial Board: Prof Veronica Barone of Central Michigan University, Mount Pleasant, USA; Prof Sanghamitra Neogiof the University of Colorado, Boulder, USA; and Dr Philipp Hövel (starting September 1st), of the School of Mathematical Sciences, University College Cork, Ireland.

Veronica Barone, Central Michigan University, Mount Pleasant, USA

Dr. Barone is a Professor in the Department of Physics at Central Michigan University and she currently serves as the chairperson in her department. Prof. Barone earned a Ph.D. in Physics from the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina in 2003. She worked at Rice University as a postdoctoral research associate until 2007 when she moved to Central Michigan University. Prof. Barone works in the area of computational materials with emphasis in electronic properties of low-dimensional materials as well as layered materials for energy conversion and storage.

Sanghamitra Neogi, University of Colorado, Boulder, USA

Prof. Sanghamitra Neogi is an Assistant Professor in the Ann and H.J. Smead Department of Aerospace Engineering Sciences at the University of Colorado Boulder since Fall 2015. Prior to joining UC Boulder, she received her Ph.D. in theoretical condensed matter physics from the Pennsylvania State University in 2011 and was a postdoctoral research associate at the Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research, Mainz, Germany. Her research is in the field of theoretical and computational solid-state materials physics, with a focus on nanoscale heat transport, nanophononics, electronic transport and electron-phonon coupling, thermal and electronic properties of semiconductor heterostructures and data driven methods for property prediction.

Philipp Hövel , School of Mathematical Sciences, University College Cork, Ireland.

Dr. Philipp Hövel is a trained mathematician and physicist, who currently works as a permanent lecturer in Applied Mathematics (School of Mathematical Sciences at University College Cork, Ireland). He received his PhD and Habilitation from Technische Universität Berlin (Germany) in 2009 and 2017, respectively. From 2011 to 2013, he joined the Center for Complex Network Research (Northeastern University, Boston, USA) as a postdoctoral researcher. At the same time and continued after his return to Germany, he led a Junior Research Group at the Bernstein Center for Computational Neuroscience Berlin.

Dr. Hövel’s research mission is to lift the boundaries between data-oriented science, theoretical approaches, and numerical simulations addressing interdisciplinary questions based on an overlap of nonlinear dynamics, network science, and control theory. His areas of mathematical expertise include complex systems, bifurcation theory, delay, differential equations, and complex networks. Besides mathematical modelling and analytical investigations, he has always looked for experimental validation of his theoretical findings and a combination of the models with empirical data. His interdisciplinary research concept has led to better insight and fundamental understanding of synchronization processes and other dynamical phenomena. In addition, the combination with empirical data sets will allow for investigations of real-world relevance in areas, such as neuroscience, epidemiology and beyond.

This was our first experience of publishing with EPJ Web of Conferences. We contacted the publisher in the middle of September, just one month prior to the Conference, but everything went through smoothly. We have had published MNPS Proceedings with different publishers in the past, and would like to tell that the EPJ Web of Conferences team was probably the best, very quick, helpful and interactive. Typically, we were getting responses from EPJ Web of Conferences team within less than an hour and have had help at every production stage.
We are very thankful to Solange Guenot, Web of Conferences Publishing Editor, and Isabelle Houlbert, Web of Conferences Production Editor, for their support. These ladies are top-level professionals, who made a great contribution to the success of this issue. We are fully satisfied with the publication of the Conference Proceedings and are looking forward to further cooperation. The publication was very fast, easy and of high quality. My colleagues and I strongly recommend EPJ Web of Conferences to anyone, who is interested in quick high-quality publication of conference proceedings.
