EPJ D Topical Issue: Physics of Ionized Gases and Spectroscopy of Isolated Complex Systems: Fundamentals and Applications

Guest Editors: Bratislav Obradović, Jovan Cvetić, Dragana Ilić, Vladimir Srećković and Sylwia Ptasinska

This EPJ D Topical Issue presents selected papers covering a wide range of topics from fundamental studies to applications of ionized gases: Atomic Collision Processes - Electron and Photon Interactions with Atomic Particles, Heavy Particle Collisions, Swarms and Transport Phenomena; Particle and Laser Beam Interactions with Solids - Atomic Collisions in Solids, Sputtering and Deposition, Laser and Plasma Interaction with Surfaces; Low Temperature Plasmas - Plasma Spectroscopy and other Diagnostic Methods, Gas Discharges, Plasma Applications and Devices; General Plasmas - Fusion Plasmas, Astrophysical Plasmas and Collective Phenomena.

The broad range of this Topical Issue gave the authors opportunity to publish articles of such different subjects like universal axial rainbow channeling interaction potential and study of graphene by proton rainbow scattering; critical velocities of ions for the nanostructure creation on a metal surface and fragmentation of tyrosine by high-energy electron impact; broadband supercontinuum generation in a square lattice photonic crystal fiber and electric field measurements in cold atmospheric-pressure helium plasma jet and in glow discharge in argon, application of machine learning for determination of the hydrogen isotopic ratio in fusion devices and for determination of austenitic steel alloys composition using LIBS, nonlinear dust ion acoustic waves in plasma and dusty plasma in active galactic nuclei…

The selected contributions in this Topical Issue reflect the fields covered at the "Symposium and Summer School on Physics of Ionized Gases (SPIG)" held in Belgrade, September 5 – 9, 2022, which follows a longtime tradition initiated 60 years ago. The Guest Editors would like to thank the authors for their contributions and support as well as the reviewers for refereeing the contributed papers. Finally, the Guest Editors acknowledge the huge help and support of the European Physical Journal D.

All articles are available here and are freely accessible until 31 December 2023.

This was our first experience of publishing with EPJ Web of Conferences. We contacted the publisher in the middle of September, just one month prior to the Conference, but everything went through smoothly. We have had published MNPS Proceedings with different publishers in the past, and would like to tell that the EPJ Web of Conferences team was probably the best, very quick, helpful and interactive. Typically, we were getting responses from EPJ Web of Conferences team within less than an hour and have had help at every production stage.
We are very thankful to Solange Guenot, Web of Conferences Publishing Editor, and Isabelle Houlbert, Web of Conferences Production Editor, for their support. These ladies are top-level professionals, who made a great contribution to the success of this issue. We are fully satisfied with the publication of the Conference Proceedings and are looking forward to further cooperation. The publication was very fast, easy and of high quality. My colleagues and I strongly recommend EPJ Web of Conferences to anyone, who is interested in quick high-quality publication of conference proceedings.
